enroute Shrikhand
I recently indulged in a little adventure which involved trekking and camping to a very isolated spot in the Himalayas, known as "Shrikhand Mahadevan". This series of pictures was taken there
Thanks to a very dear flickr friend Rajat, whose spectacular pictures of Shrikhand inspired me
Shrikhand Mahadevan is a holy pilgrimage, Every year,From the months of July-Sept, the path becomes accessible as the heavy snow cover melts and the monsoon approaches.
The Trek commences from a little village called "Joan", Close to "Nerkand" located at Kullu District, North India
At the Summit, lies the "Shiv Ling" which, according to Religious beliefs is the Holy abode of Lord Shiva situated at a height of 18000 feet (approx) surrounded by a breathtaking and an unforgiving glacier.
However, due to time limitations we could only reach up to "Kalli Ghatti" which is a resting point en route. at a height of 3904 meters (approx 13000 feet) Kali Ghatti offers some stunning views of green grasslands and cloud/snow covered Shivalik Peaks.
This trek was unlike any other treks ive taken before, this was no Piece of cake, the hardest part being a very steep climb for almost 8 kms to a rest point known as- "Thachedu", and numerous insect bites and bruises along the way.
Although the Locals like to treat this as a walk in the park being used to the kind of terrain, weather and atmosphere, we found it not to be as simple and relaxing, considering our comfort filled Urban lifestyle :D
2 and half days, almost 30kms of trekking and climbing, back in one piece. feels great!
