Of the ten different groups of aloes, the tree aloes are the largest. Some can grow 40 to 50 feet (12 to 15 meters), such as Aloe bainisii. Tree aloes are distinguished by a main trunk with side branches and no persistent dead leaves. In California, its pinkish-orange flowers blossom in the winter; in its native South Africa, it blooms in the spring.
