Garbage

The garbage strike did not have too much of an effect on St. James Town because the garbage pickup is private but some of the areas garbage disposal is taken care of by the city of Toronto, such as the garbage can shown in the picture. The buildup got so bad, that the garbage can fell open on both sides, and is spilling out onto the street corner.

Having a cleaner, more attractive environment to live in makes us want to keep it clean, and makes littering less likely because you would want to maintain the beautiful neighborhood. When there is garbage flowing out of cans and people throwing things all over the grass, the average person wont take time out of there day to clean up a whole park, but in fact might add to the mess by throwing an empty wrapper if the garbage can is too full. Keeping the area clean does not only rely in the occupants of the building but maintenance and management, if they take the first step, then residence will be more likely to follow behind. I am glad that St. James Town has private garbage collection, its one of the many positive things in the neighborhood. The buildup of garbage from all the buildings would not have good for anyone’s health or well-being in the neighborhood.
