The Last Frame on The Roll
19th May, 1974. Torquay.
One of the 'problems' with film photography was what to do when you were left with that one last picture on the roll of film. Wait till the next time you went out and carry a spare roll in your pocket or to just shot it off and drop the completed roll off at the chemist's? There was never the thought of just wasting that last bit of film by not exposing the frame and it was more bother than it was worth to just leave the roll in the camera with only the one shot left.
So often you would just frame up a shot you would never consider at any other time. This image is a result of that dilemma. Hennapyn Road Bridge, the Torquay South Signal Box with a cluster of platform trollies and ramp, the Western Region lower quadrant signal, the signs on the bridge, I believe, telling freight trains to pin down their brakes and a Gloucester R. C. & W. Co. 3 Car Cross Country leaving towards Paignton. The middle carriage is still in all over blue livery.
