Malindidzimu 'Place of spirits' Matobo National Park, Matopos Hills Zimbabwe

This sacred place is known in Sindebele as Malindidzimu 'Place of Spirits' but is also known as 'World's View'. Cecil Rhodes the founder of Rhodesia chose to be buried here at this spot. Despite bringing about the downfall of the Amandebele kingdom, Rhodes or Ulodzi won the respect of the Ndebele people. Venturing into these hills unarmed to end the Matabele uprising, he earned the name Lamula Mkunzi 'Seperator of the Fighting Bulls'. A huge number of Ndebele people lined the route that his funeral cortege took, as his body was carried by ox-wagon up to this spot.
