A cabinet card from the Shugart Family Album, of a pretty Victorian lady. This one is by the talented but elusive photographer, J. L. Kelman. Does anyone think this might be Frankie Shugart, at around age 30?
Update on J. L. Kelman. He appears to have been a traveling photographer. His cabinet cards appear mostly in albums from northern and north central illinois, but he was listed in a boarding house in Roodhouse, Greene County, Illinois, in the 1900 census. This is over 150 miles south of where the majority of his photos have thus far been found. Kelman was born in Illinois, in September of 1857. Wis wife, Minnie A., age 26, was listed with him in the boarding house in Roodhouse.
