Another 1860's Lady In Rockford, Illinois

CDV by Wakeman & Howes, East Rockford, Illinois. This lovely lady is still young but not quite as young as the previous CDV.

The 1870 census lists Jehiel H. Wakeman as a photographer in Ward 4, Rockford, Winnebago County, Illinois. He was born in New York in 1836. His wife, Elizabeth (Shepard) was born in Connecticut in 1842. Their son, Howard, was born in Connecticut in 1858. Also in the household was Wakeman's mother-in-law, Sarah Shepard, 48, born in Connecticut. Jehiel Wakeman had been listed as a "painter" in Mansfield, Ohio, in the 1860 census. In 1880, he was a carpenterin San Francisco, California.

 

Wakeman's partner, Myron Howes, was a 22 year old photographer, born in New York. He was a single man, living in a boarding house.
