Justus L. Kelman was born in Illinois in September of 1857, the son of Swedish parents. He married Minnie A, Spath, a native of Whiteside County, Illinois, in Chicago, January 15, 1885. Kelman worked as a traveling photographer in northern and central Illinois, during the late 1880's and 1890's. His cabinet cards are of exceptional quality. He and his wife were living in a boarding house in Roodhouse, Greene County, Illinois, in the 1900 census. They were in Chicago in 1910. Kelman wrote a book, "The J L K Simplex Style Computer" in 1908. They were living in Eustis, Lake County, Florida, by 1930. Kelman died there in 1938.
