Walter Frederick Sunderland was born January 24, 1847, in Birmingham, England. He was listed first as a Photo Artist in Rubicon, Dodge County, Wisconsin, in the 1880 census. He married his wife, Martha Russell, in Columbia, Wisconsin in 1876. He is listed as a photographer in Milledge ville, Carroll County, Illinois, in the 1900, 1910, and 1920 censuses. He died in Milledgeville, December 11, 1938. He had arrived in the United States in 1861 and served the 1st Regiment, US Volunteer Engineers during the Civil War.
