A Distinguished Gentleman From The 1860's

CDV by E. Wright, Photographic Artist, Henry, Illinois. 1860's. I do not know at this point, whether photographer Elias Wright was related to the Wright family from whence this album came. Wright is a fairly common surname, so it might be just coincidence.

Elias Wright was born in Madison County, Ohio, in 1813. He married Sarah A. Boman (born in Ohio in 1815) March 2, 1835, in Lyme, Allen County, Ohio. They were living in Indiana when their son Elias, Jr., was born in 1841. In 1850, Elias Wright was a wagon maker in Putnam County, Illinois. His brother, John M. Wright, also a wagon maker, was living with the family.

In the 1860 census, Elias Wright was living in Hennepin, Putnam County, Illinois, and was the county treasurer.

Sometime during the 1860's, Elias became a photographer. The 1870 census lists him as such, in Henry, Marshall County, Illinois. This is just south of Putnam County. The 1880 census lists him as an "artist", a term often used by census takers to describe a photographer. Elias Wright died in 1894, and is buried in the Magnolia Cemetery, Magnolia, Putnam County, Illinois.
