Acorn woodpecker

I tried to get a shot of this guy pecking on some old trees, but any time I approached with my camera he'd move over to the other side, preferably the shady one, of course! Or to a spot where there's a big branch between me and him.

Typical bird!

Then he took a break, sitting right in front of me! Yes, I had to take several steps back to fit him in the frame since running back to the car for my 400mm was out of the question. Luckily I wasn't standing at the edge of a precipice.
