San Pedro Chapel

by xTexAnne

San Pedro Chapel was dedicated in 1932 and served its people until 1948. The Chapel was built over the ruins of an older church that was destroyed in a tornado. Both were constructed by the El Fuerte community. The hill where the Chapel stands was once the center of El Fuerte where a cluster of houses once stood. The Chapel has been stabilized and has been restored as closely as possible to historical authenticity. It functions as a neighborhood center and is also used for weddings in a rustic setting.

The adobe house next to San Pedro Chapel was built around 1915 and is the oldest building on the property. The house was once used as a tiny market where sodas were sold and it was once used as an artist’s studio. Today it is currently used for neighborhood business meetings.
