Old pottery displayed at Tumacácori Mission south of Tucson Arizona. The pots were used to store grains.
This display is in the remains of an old storage building used at the mission. The mission has an interesting past. Tumacácori was established in 1691 by Jesuit padre Eusebio Kino making it the oldest Jesuit mission site in Arizona. In 1848 the mission was abandoned and began falling into severe disrepair. Restoration and stabilization efforts began in 1908 when the site was declared Tumacácori National Monument. Tumacácori National Historical Park consists of 360 acres and protects three separate Spanish mission communities.
