(#39) My Treasure

Here is Bear guarding my flowers. He thinks his job is to chase lizards and little ground squirrels. He will sit and stare at the flowers, lizard hole or pile of sticks waiting for lizard movement. Then the chase is on! He will dig in their burrows and try to get them. He knows he can’t catch the birds or bunnies and some day he may realize he can’t catch lizards either!

Bear is a Landseer New Foundland. He weighs about 150 pounds and he is the best companion and protector I could ever want. Once I stepped backwards and fell over a barrel cactus in the yard. By the time I opened my eyes, Bear was standing over me with his nose in my face. Last I recalled, he was inside laying on the kitchen floor. To this day, I don’t know how he knew I fell, but he was certainly there to help me get up. Whenever there is a stranger around he will stand between me and the person so that they cannot get near me. His ability to judge character is amazing. One time when we were camping he pressed against me sitting on my feet and holding me against a picnic table because he was not sure of the guy camping across from us. Bear is not aggressive, but he is possessive!

He is truly a treasure!
