10/100x Tea Kettle Junction - Death Valley
(#17)MardiGras - Shrove Tuesday...
We were traveling this week visiting a few National Parks. On Tuesday we were in Death Valley. We drove the 27 mile bumpy gravel road to see the Race Track. It is one of my favorite places in Death Valley and is quite fascinating to see the rock trails in the dried mud. Several miles before reaching the playa (dry lake bed) is the Tea Kettle Junction sign. The legend is that a group was traveling together and one wagon went ahead. They left a tea kettle at this junction pointing the direction that they had taken. People now leave teakettles at the site with their message scribed on the side.
Since we were traveling I could not set up a shot for MardiGras or Shrove Tuesday. I’m very familiar with Mardi Gras as celebrated in New Orleans with beads, feathers, masks and jazz parades but was not quite sure about Shrove Tuesday. I didn’t know about it being “Pancake Tuesday” but I have heard it called “Fat Tuesday.” So many traditions!
Anyway, this is as close as I could come to cooking utensils and there were no parades, beads, masks or jazz bands for celebrating Mardi Gras.
