(#66) Pollinating the Desert Marigold

Living out in the boonies, I have the luxury of being able to walk in the open desert every morning from the front door. I don’t usually take my camera on these morning walks. The desert is in bloom now so I decided to take the camera with me. The creosote bushes are dotted with yellow flowers. Lots of desert marigolds, brittlebush and desert chicory blooming. Clumps of desert zinnia covers the ground beneath the prickly pear and cholla. In my neck of the woods, we don’t have the Mexican Poppies and very few lupine. What we don’t have a shortage of is prickly pear cactus. You never realize how many different shape and sizes of prickly pear pads there are until you take a walk in the desert. The prickly pears are putting on the buds right now. In another month they will be bursting with color.
