Mormon Row Historic District - Once a vibrant community

Mormon settlers first arrived here in the 1890s. The U.S. Post Office named the community Grovont, now known as "Mormon Row."

Farms were clustered to utilize shared labor and create a community. Families cooperated with each other on large projects, from building barns to digging ditches. Women worked communally assisting neighbors births and helping each other with chores.

Despite the harsh conditions, the homesteaders succeeded at growing crops by using irrigation techniques they developed during the 1847 settlement of the Great Basin.

There were 33 homesteads surrounding a church and a school in Grovont, Wyoming. Only six homesteads remain from the original community.
