Slowly Humidifying the Air
Hokkaido winters tend to be excessively dry (somewhat like California summers). My skin is usually very itchy and dry every winter here, and there is a lot of static. To help reduce the static and increase the humidity upstairs, I resurrected out humidifier and turned it on upstairs. (We found out that the humidifier is bad for our kitchen heater, which is why we aren't using it downstairs.) Don't know if the humidifier will make a difference or not, but it's worth a try...
