Virginia Civil Rights Memorial - West Side
Located on the grounds of the Virginia State Capitol in Richmond, the Virginia Civil Rights Memorial features four panels that commemorate protests that helped to desegregate schools in the mid-1900s. The west side of the memorial depicts the student activism at R.R. Moton High School in Farmville in 1951, led by 16-year-old Barbara Johns, to protest the harsh conditions at the segregated school.
