Dunker Church
Built in 1852 as a house of worship for German Baptist Brethren in the Sharpsburg, Maryland, area, the Dunker Church became a focal point for Union attacks at the Battle of Antietam in September 1862. Used temporarily for medical aid after the battle, the church resumed services by war's end, continuing until the turn of the century. Badly damaged by a storm in 1921, much of the building material was saved and used to reconstruct the church in time for the 100th anniversary commemoration of the battle. The Dunker Church is part of the Antietam National Battlefield park.
