ok i am wondering if i have beaten this (just now) : i.gizmodo.com/5145145/mac-os-x-running-200-apps-keeps-the...
not really sure but my mac now refuses to run more apps with a "this operation could not be completed. an unexpected error occurred (error code -10810)" that i guess means too many apps, or maybe too many threads (also until i quite one or two apps, i could not screen shot, it just did not work -- i guess screen shot is an app / thread to its self, so can't launch)
if not beaten in number of apps, then i def feel i win in number of "heavy weight" apps :
"heavy weight" apps running are:
1) adobe creative suite CS 3 design premium -- ever app in it (so photoshop, dreamweaver (eugh!!!) indesign, illustrator etc... )
2) Final cut studio -- ever app (final cut pro, compressor, qmaster dvd studio pro, motion etc..)
3)Sling player
4)Virtual box running : win xp pro with a gb of ram, Crunch Bang Linux with about 768 mb ram
5)Xcode, iphone simulator etc..
6)Filemaker
7)The flux (brilliant web design app, though think its more of a memory leaker than a true "heavy weight app" :-)
8)google earth (version 5)
9) Microsoft office 2008 -- all of it
10) apple iwork 09 -- all 3 apps
11) eclipse IDE
12) omnigrafle, omnioutliner
and then the usual ical, safari, few bit torrent apps, text editors itunes, remote desktop apps, sketchup, vlc abiword, terminal and a few hundred more ......
machine spec b4 you ask :
mac pro 8-core 2.8ghz xeon
10gb 800 Mhz ram
2 1tb samsung drives in software raid 0
30" NEC 3090 display
james :-)
