Gian Lorenzo Bernini, the god of Argentina’s Río de la Plata, representing the Americas, Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi (Fountain of the Four Rivers), 1651, Piazza Navona, Rome. Bernini’s sculpture group supports an Egyptian obelisk brought to Rome by Domitian and erected at the Temples of Isis and Serapis in the Campus Martius, later transferred to the Circus of Maxentius on the Appian Way.
