Nuremberg

The excellent Germanisches Nationalmuseum, founded in 1852, is devoted to the culture, arts and sciences of the German-speaking world. Only around 25,000 of the 1.3 million items it holds are on display. They include these two droll heads, part of a series created in lead by Franz Xaver Messerschmidt between 1770 and 1780. The one of the left is nicknamed 'The Constipated One', whilst the one on the right is known as 'The Satirist'.
