Ahmedabad
The main mosque in Ahmedabad is the Jama Masjid (Friday Mosque). This photograph is of part of the colonnade which surrounds the huge courtyard on three sides. The mosque was commissioned by Ahmed Shah I for his private use and was completed in 1424. The yellow sandstone building incorporates material from demolished Hindu and Jain temples. Unfortunately, it is now overlooked by some extremely ugly modern buildings.
