Angouleme

The main church in Angouleme is the Cathedrale St-Pierre, a Romanesque rather than a Gothic building. It is notable for its magnificent west facade, covered with around 70 statues and dating from the 12th century. The rest of the cathedral was re-modelled in the neo-Romanesque style by Paul Abadie between 1866 and 1885.
