Heidelberg

The partially ruined Schloss (Castle), situated on Konigstuhl Hill overlooking Heidelberg, was the seat of the Electors Palatine for over 400 years, until it was devastated during the War of the Palatinate Succession (1688-97). This photograph shows one of its towers, the partially collapsed Pulverturm (Power Tower). This was where gunpowder used to be stored.
