ObjectDock - (KKMenu w/ Leopard Stacks-Grid skin, custom icons, KKMenu system tray)
Rainmeter - (customized out of HUD.Vision and the latest Enigma)
DColor for desktop icons, Launchy and Digsby currently hiding, walls from the Enigma release, NiteLiteXP visualstyle (hidden).
The icons on the side, ane in each KKMenu, are custom-made from scratch by me.
I was inspired to make this because almost everything I do on the computer is in the "portrait" format - from web browsing to word documenting to print-based graphic design. A sidebar seems like a better use of space than a taskbar.
Practicality takes prominence over aesthetics. What's wrong with leaving files strewn around the desktop?
