Hestehov/Coltsfoot

This photo was taken just after the snow melted in the spring, and the coltsfoot peeped out of the melting snow. Lovely sight with a bright yellow carpet of the flowers. Latin name is Tussilago farfara. In 'folk medicine' it was/is used as a remedy for coughs and broncitis. The fresh leaves also used for infected wounds. The leaves are shaped like a horse's hoof, thereby the name of Hestehov in Norwegian and Colt's foot in English.
