Solid Africa
Solid Africa exists to try to get food and medicines to hospital patients. Neither are given by the hospital. Meals are available to patients for about 1 dollar, which is as much as the poorest Rwandans pay for health insurance for a year! as a result, families congregate around the hospital to feed, change linens, etc., and this magnifies health problems because the families often have no way of providing for their own health or sanitation. Many life-saving prescriptions can be filled for 1 or a few dollars, but, sadly, some cost hundreds or more. The long-term goal of Solid Africa is for government to provide some prescription coverage (after SA demonstrates effectiveness) and for SA to build their own kitchen that could provide very inexpensive nutritious food to large numbers of hospital patients.
