Just Another Hungry Night........ In Sundarbans

It was a dark cold winter night at the heart of Sundarbans. We were staying on a small motorized boat anchored in one of the numerous channels, near to Annepur village (Gosaba block). It was New Year's Eve and we went to meet the villagers at the dark. They were scared, panicked and mostly staying indoor.

On two previous nights, a big hungry tiger visited their village from across the other side of the river and killed a cow and two goats. The forest department put a bait of a goat on the other side where the remains were found.

The young male vigilant villagers of Annepur were busy in arranging a night search party whereas the women were worriedly preparing a quick evening meal in their makeshift kitchen, outside their huts under small oil lamps.

For a moment, the Annepur village looked like a battlefield to me..........
