Blue lakes in Beautiful BC

A view of beautiful Kentucky Lake in British Columbia, Canada.

About this photoWe enjoyed another little camping trip a few days ago. We drove from Vancouver to Merritt where we camped. In this area we visited beautiful Kentucky-Alleyne Provincial Park. This park was a half an hour drive from Merritt on paved roads.

We initially wanted to stay in our campervan at this provincial park, but the campground was full. We enjoyed a visit as day users which is free. There is a parking lot and you can walk a short trail between the 2 lakes. The views here are amazing and the lakes are quite blue as well. What a beautiful provincial park this is and we definitely hope to stay here in our campervan some day.

Some information about Kentucky-Alleyne Provincial Park:

This park has a day use area as well as 3 different campgrounds if you wish to camp here in an RV or tent. There are 2 larger lakes, Kentucky Lake and Alleyne Lake and in between there are 2 smaller lakes/ponds. The lakes are a favourite destination for locals and visitors alike. There is an endless choice of activities, enjoy swimming, canoeing, walking, fishing, and hiking. Boating is restricted to paddle watercrafts only, as powerboats are not permitted. There is a small gravel boat launch on Kentucky Lake.

There are several easy hiking trails that loop around the lakes, and wildflowers, wildlife, beaver lodges and Quilchena Falls are all features of this delightful park. None of the lakes have natural spawning streams – they are stocked with rainbow trout.

The park has 58 vehicle/tent campsites, which are divided between Kentucky Lake, the West Pond, and Alleyne Lake. The campground is open from April to October. The group sites are located on the north end of Alleyne Lake, accessed via a narrow 2.5km/1.5mi gravel road. There are no phones in the park and the closest store is at the Elkhart Lodge on the Coquihalla Connector or in Merritt, 38km/23.5mi north of the park.
