~ pole position ~

For the Get Pushed group.

I was paired up with Barbara (misst. shs) for the Round 7 challenge. Her work around Northern Idaho certainly had me looking forward to clicking on the next and then the next to see some of the most beautiful images of America. Do yourself a favor and click on the link to her photostream, it's most impressive indeed.

My Push to contemplate went like this:

Now here’s my challenge for you. I did not see many action shots in your stream, so I would like you to take a panning shot with the subject of your choice. (Maybe that beautiful German shepherd, Xander or maybe you can catch a Kangaroo or some other species indigenous to the “land down under”). If the subject is something that represents you, all the better. Extra credit if you can use an otter. The maximum shutter speed should be no more than 1/30. There should be part of your image in focus or almost in focus, but definitely depicting a sense of motion. Try to keep your post processing to a minimum. Changing levels or curves is OK.

Well I couldn't find a moving otter so I lucked out there, but maybe I'll get a chance as the weather picks up and we can get to the zoo.

The shot above was taken at an end of year function for my youngest son's football team. The team all had a drive on the carts but only the older boys were able drive the faster ones (like the one above). It made for some good action as they shot down the straight and prepared to corner. I set to manual 1/30th f5.6 and panned with the carts. It was a fun session, completely harder than it looks! ..but I hope to be able to do it more often. Thanks for the great Push, I hope it's a pass :)
