Rochdale Olympic kit car advert (Practical Motorist magazine, September 1961)

If you wanted a low-budget, aerodynamic and sporty looking car but with the performance of a standard Riley 1.5 or a Morris Minor, then Rochdale Motor Panels provided the answer with their Rochdale Olympic coupé. They supplied a complete vehicle with a monocoque fibreglass having a tubular subframe bonded to accommodate an engine from the Riley 1.5, Ford 109E, MG or Morris Minor. The later Phase II model was upgraded and standardised to include the Ford 116E 1500cc engine.

The Rochdale Olympic models were produced from 1960 until 1973 during which time some 400 vehicles were built and were the company’s best selling model.

With the development of fibreglass technology and its increasing use from the mid-1950's, many car companies diversified into producing bespoke car bodies that would give an old car that totally revamped look.
