David Greig Ltd (Supermarkets) - 90 Years commemorative badge (1960)

A finely made enamel badge issued by the David Greig Ltd chain of supermarkets to commemorate their 90th anniversary. David Greig opened his first store in London in 1870 and by the time the business was sold on in 1972, it had 219 stores across Britain. The entire David Greig chain of stores was purchased by Fitch Lovell (Key Markets), which later became the Gateway and Somerfield chain of supermarkets.

 

The thistle motif also appears on at least one of the David Greig Ltd buildings and was wondering if there is a Scottish connection? Was David Greig born in Scotland?
