London Docklands, The Exceptional Place - promotional badge (c.1989)

The London Docklands was an area of East London planned and redeveloped as a mixed residential area of luxury properties and a major financial centre at Canary Wharf. Planning of the entire redevelopment was overseen by the London Docklands Development Corporation (LDDC) who were wound up in 1998 and control handed back to the respective Local Authorities. The docklands area also saw the development of the Docklands Light Railway and a new airport (London City Airport) opened in 1987. Further improvements to the transport infrastructure were made when a new Jubilee Line extension was opened there in 1999.
