Boy Scouts/Girl Guides of Great Britain - The Queen’s Silver Jubilee 1977 badge

The silver jubilee of 1977 marked the 25th anniversary of the accession of Queen Elizabeth II on the 6th February 1952. The 1977 jubilee celebrations took place throughout much of the year during which the Queen and Prince Philip toured Britain and many Commonwealth countries across the world. The event was especially notable for the great many street parties that took place in cities and towns across Britain, the likes of which had not been seen since the 1953 coronation and the Victory celebrations of 1945. The level of public enthusiasm and participation in the event was phenomenal, the likes of which may never be seen again.

This badge was available for sale to all Boy Scouts and Girl Guide organisations. It’s likely the monies raised would have been donated to fund some of the celebratory events.
