KNIGHTS OF MALTA (Order of Malta) - a finely made ceramic mug depicting the Order's founder.

This mug was issued for the KNIGHTS OF MALTA, also known as the Order of Malta. The mug is finely decorated with detailed gold coloured print over a black ground. Two different gold inks were silk-screen printed to achieve this fine decorative effect. The central vignette shows the Order's founder, the Blessed Fra. Gerard (c.1040 - 1120).

This mug may have originally sold from the Order of Malta's Irish Association office in Ballsbridge, Dublin 4. If anyone knows approximately what year this mug may have been issued, please do let me know.

The Knights of Malta, also known as the Order of Malta is an international lay religious order of the Catholic Church. Their motto is 'Tuitio fidei et obsequium pauperum' (Defence of the faith and assistance to the poor) and these days the Knights of Malta are active mainly in humanitarian work across many countries.
