The Magic Roundabout - merchandise mug (c.2009)

This charming MAGIC ROUNDABOUT ceramic mug featuring ZEBEDEE and was one of a set of three produced by Rock Off, under licence by Parthenon Entertainment Group Ltd. The other two mugs showed different characters from The Magic Roundabout. Zebedee was one of the main characters and hopped about on a spring making a 'boing' noise. He is most noted for bouncing in at the end of each episode and announcing "time for bed".

 

The Magic Roundabout was originally a French children's cartoon (le Manège enchanté) created by Serge Danot (1931-1990) in 1965. The series was adopted by the BBC and broadcast in 441 episodes from 1965 until 1977. The storyline for all English episodes were written and narrated by Eric Thompson (1929-1982). The BBC Magic Roundabout cartoon series were a great success and since, have acquired a cult status.
