Irish Confirmation medal inscribed to Kathleen Marron 24th February 1938

A finely made confirmation medal inscribed with the recipient’s name. This medal would originally have been affixed to a ribbon or rosette.

The medal’s obverse depicts a confirmation ceremony being carried out by a bishop, with a priest in attendance and a godparent who acts as the child’s sponsor. Children in Catholic Ireland were usually confirmed while in their 6th year of primary school (aged about 12 years).
