F-4B-20 Phantom II, U.S. Navy (151510), Nevada, Fallon Naval Air Station
The two seat F-4 Phantom was introduced by the McDonnell Aircraft in 1960. The carrier capable all weather, long-range interceptor, fighter / fighter bomber saw extensive service in the Vietnam War. Navy F-4 pilots shot down 24 enemy MIGS in 1972 alone. A land based model of the aircraft was flown by the U.S. Air Force.
The aircraft in the photograph was built as an F4H-1 model and was later redesignated as an F-4B-20 model. The aircraft has the identification marking of Fighter Squadron 161, the Chargers, and the Midway.
