Missouri, Houston, U. S. Forest Service- Mark Twain National Forest, Houston Ranger Station- District Ranger's Dwelling; Houston-Rolla-Cedar Creek Ranger District Office

The house that was the Houston District Ranger's Dwelling was built in 1937 by Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) enrollees. The house is a one- and one-half story frame and limestone veneer Colonial Revival style influenced structure. It has a gable roof with two dormers that have weatherboard siding. To one side- the south elevation- there is a stone chimney. There is a wood lintel above the door of the main entrance on the west elevation that appear to be original. And all the windows appear to have original wood lintels and concrete sills. The interior of the dwelling was remodeled in the 1980s. In 2023, when the photograph was taken, the building served as the Houston-Rolla-Cedar Creek Ranger District Office.

The house that was the Ranger's Dwelling is in the Houston Ranger Station Historic District that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Houston Ranger Station Historic District is composed of five frame and limestone buildings constructed by the Lynchburg Camp of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) during 1936 and 1937. The complex includes a ranger's office, dwelling, garage, warehouse and oil house.
