EA-1E Skyraider, U. S. Navy (132789), California, Riverside, March Field Air Museum
The Skyraider made its first flight in 1945. It was developed as a replacement for the carrier-based TBM Avenger. During the Korean War and Vietnam War, the aircraft provided close air support to ground forces, attacked enemy supply lines, and supported the insertion and extraction of special operations teams in enemy territory. The aircraft in the photograph is a EA-1E, a variant of the A-1E Skyraider. The "E" identifier is for Electronic. The EA-1E version was deployed to provide Navy vessels with early warning of approaching enemy aircraft.
