Maine, Hancock County, Frenchman Bay, Egg Rock Lighthouse

Egg Rock Lighthouse at the entrance to Frenchman Bay was built in 1875. The lighthouse was built with a square tower projecting through the square keeper's house. This was a unique design for a lighthouse. In 1899, a second floor was added to provide room an assistant keeper and family. That addition created the roofline with its numerous dormers. The light was automated in 1976. In the late 1990s, the station converted to solar power. The lighthouse was restored in 2009. Egg Rock Lighthouse was an active aid to navigation in 2019, when the photograph was taken. The light is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
