Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan Theater

The Michigan Theater was designed by Maurice Finkel and built in 1928. The theater, as a movie house, operated until 1979. The building was slated to be converted to retail / commercial space. A local group- the Michigan Theater Foundation- was formed to preserved the theater and its original 1927 Barton Theatre Pipe Organ, orchestra pit, stage, and elaborate architectural details. In 2016, the Michigan Theater was a venue for live performances and cinema, with seating for over 1,700 people.
