Commissioned Officer's Quarters, U. S. Army, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas

The house with one elevation over-looking the Missouri River and another facing a park is located on a residential street reserved for a high ranking officer. The house, known as Building 6, was erected in 1883 and over the years was expanded and improved. The most apparent architectural influences are Queen Anne, Eastlake, Georgian and vernacular. The two-story porch extending across the entire front façade is the most notable feature of the house. Other outstanding features are the Queen Anne style inspired central front gable dormer; the Georgian inspired symmetrical front façade that accommodate a central hallway flanked by two parlors; Eastlake ornamentations include porch posts, brackets, railings and decorative brackets on the lower level bay windows. The house is located in the Fort Leavenworth Historic District listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a contributing property. Fort Leavenworth is a National Historic Landmark (Sources include the Library of Congress, Historic American Building Survey.)
