The caboose was built in 1949 for the New York Chicago & St. Louis Railroad- The Nickel Plate Road. On the Nickel Plate the caboose was number 732. The car became Norfolk & Western No. 557732 when N&W took over the Nickel Plate. The photograph was taken in 1996. In 2014, I photographed the caboose, then painted in red without the N&W markings.
