"Valve In Head." David Buick produced cars powered by horizontal engines with "valve in head" construction, a departure from the side valve, intake valves of most early car manufacturers. Under General Motors, Buicks were built with valve in head engines from the beginning, first going to vertical fours, then sixes and eights, first inline and then the famous "nail head" V-8 of the early 1950s.
