1923 Armstrong Whitworth Steam Road Roller 'Albert'

A rare example of a type of steam road roller which was never made in great numbers, and now very few survive. Here, this example is trundling through the roads of Beamish Museum on a wet day, much to the delight of the driver of the 1903 Oldsmobile Model-R Runabout in the background.

The engine is an Armstrong Whitworth 12-ton steam road roller, works No.11 "Albert" of 1923, UK registered PT 1034, and originally used by Bishop Auckland Urban District Council in NE England.
