1936 Riley Merlin Sports Saloon
Parked on the Events Field at Beamish Museum is this immaculately restored 1936-built 1.5ltr Riley 12/4 'Merlin' four-door Sports Saloon car, UK registered FV 7818.
This model was only available in 1936, although some may have been sold in 1937. The total production run was only 400 - 500 cars, and they sold new for just over £300.
Riley was a British car manufacturer established in 1890 in Coventry (UK). The Company became part of the Nuffield Organization in 1938, which was then merged into the British Leyland Motor Corporation in 1968. British Leyland ceased the use of the Riley marque in 1969.
