Three Old Girls!
Resting outside the tramshed at Beamish Museum is this beautifully collection of restored buses of the past.
On the left is a 1947 Bristol L5G/ECW B35R of Durham District Services. The bus, registered HHN 202, was new to United Automobile Services in 1947 as fleet number BLO202. It was allocated to subsidiary company Bell's Services of Westerhope until it retuned to the United fleet as BG216 in 1951. It was re-bodied in 1957 and two years later was transferred to United subsidiary Durham District Services as DB216. The bus was sold for preservation in 1968.
In the middle is ex-Sunderland Corporation bus No.53, a 1966 Leyland Panther with a Strachan B47D body, registered FBR 53D.. It may look fairly modern but it is now well over fifty years old!
Finally, on the right, is H669 BNL, a 1991 Leyland Olympian with Northern Counties body. The bus was new to Sunderland Busways which was later absorbed into Stagecoach. The bus was converted into partial open to for sightseeing duties in 2007 and was further converted to full open top in 2008. In preservation it carries the livery of Economic of South Shields.
The vehicles were at Beamish for their 16/17 July 2022 bus event.
